Coastweek --
Formalities of the past few days are almost
done with Mombasa Motor Club (MMC) promising coast drivers
an exhilarating “man and machine” test when next club rally gets
underway on the newly-built seafront track at Mombasa Cement
Limited grounds on August 27.
With more entries
expected to flow in from around Mombasa, the first prominent
names to confirm their place on the growing list of competitors
are Piero Cannobio, Vicky Singh and youngster Sohan-jeet Puee of
Team Nanak and former Coast Champion Naushad Kara who is set to
show-case his new Subaru machine.
Also in the mix are
Arjun Pattni and Dinesh Varsani of Deeman.
Varsani will be
driving a gc8.
The new track which
is a 7.5km stretch will also provide a thrilling test for other
coast stars among them. Paras Pandya, his cousin Kamlesh Pandya
and Ammar “Bushy” Haq who is a sibling of former Rally Raid Car
Class Champion Adin Haq “Paps”.
Notable absentee,
due to pressing commit-ment, will be Road-tainers Racing driver
Yusuf Pasta.
According to
organizers, “Coas-tarians” will savour yet another scintillating
occasion on 100 percent closed private farm roads after a long
break, thanks to Mombasa Cement for their unswerving support.
Mombasa Cement farm
hosted the opening round of the 2017 Kenya National Rally
Champion-ship earlier in the year with legendary drivers
including Carl “Flash” Tundo, “Flying Finn” Tapio Laukannen, Ian
Duncan and Jassi Chatthe gracing the tough terrain.
MMC in conjunction
with title sponsors Mombasa Cement won accolades upon waiving
the entry fee much to the delight of visiting crews.
The Mombasa Cement
farm fields have some of the most challenging coastal terrain
and the newly built track will be a good opportunity for club
members to shake of the rust from their machines.
Among the favourites
for victory will be Piero and Naushad who will be looking to
bounce back behind the wheel of his new Subaru.
According to Roy
McKenzie, the rally program will start off with scrutineering
and reconnaissance on Saturday, August 26 from 3.00 p.m to 6.00
p.m.
The rally will be
flagged off on Sunday, August 27 at 8.00 a.m. with the best
three loop times earmarked to determine the winner.
Ammar ‘Bushy’ Haq
was all smiles upon handing in his entry and this is what he had
to say:
“It has been quite a
long break from our last event and the upcoming MMC event
couldn’t have come sooner!
“The car has been
ready in anticipation of the Nanyuki event which was cancelled.
“The event will be a
short one. We plan to be cautious coz Vipingo will offer us a
taste of coral which is as hard as tarmac thus demanding on the
tyres and suspensions.
“We haven’t had fun
in the dust for a few months and have the MMC event on our
priority list too!”
