'Dragon' seize three tons of drugs from dhow on ‘Hash Highway’

HMS 'Dragon', a Royal Navy Type 45 Destroyer, has interdicted 3048kg of hashish from a dhow acting suspiciously in the Indian Ocean, along an area known as ‘The Hash Highway.’ The warship was operating as direct support to CTF150, the CMF’s counter terrorism and narcotics smuggling task force, commanded by Commodore Hassan Alsharani of the Royal Saudi Navy. The Royal Saudi Naval Forces assumed command of CTF150 in August of this year and ships acting in direct support to their maritime security operations have seized over 10, 500kg of hashish in this time. Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday launched Coast Guard Service to help enhance the east African nation’s maritime security along the coastline. He said that the Coast Guard Service shall in cooperation with other national security organs, safeguard the country’s territorial waters against dumping of harmful wastes and pollutants, search and rescue services, and the arrest of illegal fishermen.  Combined Counter Piracy naval forces join 'Operation Haka' off Socotra | Coastweek

The Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) Counter Piracy Combined Task Force (CTF) 151 are conducting Operation HAKA, a Counter Piracy Operation in the Gulf of Aden and the Socotra Gap over the period 16-23 November 2018. The aims of Operation HAKA are to deter and disrupt piracy, enhance information exchange between counter piracy stakeholders, and engage with regional partners and local mariners. Continued successful suppression of piracy depends on a number of stakeholders, including the merchant shipping community itself, being able to work together as part of the overall counter piracy system. OFF SOMALIA -- Protecting vessels carrying food to Somali communities is part of Operational Atlanta’s core tasks and earlier this week the Italian frigate, ITS Federico Martinengo did just that. MV Petra I was transiting Somali territorial waters when she met with EU NAVFOR’s forces. Almost 1.8 million tonnes of food aid have reached the Somali people through the direct protection from European Union Naval Forces over the last 10 years.
