CTF 150 warship seize six tonnes of Hashish from Drug Dhows

CTF 150 warship seize six tonnes of Hashish from Drug Dhows | Coastweek

HMAS Warramunga’s Seahawk Romeo helicopter has located two separate suspicious vessels in the East Arabian Sea. With CCTF approval, and following the insertion of her boarding team, a professional and thorough search of the first vessel led to the discovery of 147 bags of hashish, weighing in at approximately three tonnes and worth approximately USD $115.2 million. Just hours later, a second suspicious vessel was located by HMAS Warramunga’s Seahawk Romeo helicopter. Again, with CCTF approval, the ship’s boarding party was deployed and upon conducting searches uncovered approximately 3.2 tonnes of hashish, worth approximately USD $122.45 million. This takes Warramunga’s total seizures to more than 26 tonnes of hashish and approximately two tonnes of heroin, valued at approximately USD $1.42 billion. Asian-refined heroin derived from Afghan or Burmese poppy seeds flows by dhow sailing vessel and by air into Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania. There it is redirected to Europe, and sometimes, via Nigeria, to Mexico and North America. Al-Shabaab, the Islamist, Al-Qaeda-affiliated terror movement of Somalia, derives much of its predatory income from the illicit movement of Asian heroin and hashish, charcoal and locally produced qat [miraa]. CTF 150 ship La Fayette hold U.S. $60 million dollar heroin haul

CTF 150 ship 'La Fayette' seizing U.S. $60 million dollars heroin | Coastweek

MARINE Nationale Frigate La Fayette continues to provide outstanding support to Combined Task Force 150 (CTF 150) and Combined Maritime Forces (CMF), by interdicting a suspicious dhow and seizing 260 Kgs of heroin on May 11, 2018. It is her third seizure of narcotics in less than a month. In an operation coordinated by CTF 150 headquarters, MNF La Fayette was conducting maritime security operations and working closely with a French Navy Falcon patrol aircraft. Together they located a suspicious vessel that La Fayette interdicted with assistance from her own Panther helicopter. Ship’s Commanding Officer determined that further action was required and quickly requested permission from Commander CTF 150 to activate a boarding team. A thorough search that lasted nearly 24 hours in rough sea conditions resulted in seizure of 260 Kgs of heroin worth an estimated U.S. $61 million dollars. PHOTOS - COMBINED MARITIME FORCES
