OFF SOMALIA (Operation Atalanta) -- Since its launch, Operation Atalanta warships and maritime patrol aircraft have ensured that 100 per cent of WFP vessels sailing under EU NAVFOR’s protection have remained safe from Somalia pirate attacks. EU NAVFOR has also prevented and disrupted a significant number of pirate attacks in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean and as a result, 154 men suspected of committing acts of piracy have been transferred to the EU or regional states for legal prosecution.
