Double tragedy for de Souza family - Venerable tourism dynasty

On April 23 this year, Goans around the world mourned the passing of one its leading lights, the tourism businessman Lewis de Souza who was founder and chairman of Visit Africa Safaris, reports Cyprian Fernandes.

He died after a battle with pancreatic cancer in Nairobi.

On August 29, the family was struck with a shocking double tragedy when his widow, Antoinette, suddenly passed away while on short holiday in Zanzibar, one of her favourite places.

They are survived by their only daughter.

Heather-Gail who is left to carry on the mantle.

She is related to Merwin de Souza.

She was an important link for Goans in the diaspora and provided wonderful help in sourcing vital documentation etc.

More recently, she helped renovate Pio Gama Pinto's grave in Nairobi City Park.
