Chui Safari Lodge managers Geoff Mayes and Suzanne Zwager are ready for a fresh
challenge when they contest the KCB Kilifi Rally in their Maxxis Tyres shod V8
Tomcat Off Road Racer this weekend, reports Samson Ateka.
pair are particularly excited to contest their first ever night stage this
Geoff and Suzanne, who recently took an SPV class podium on the World Famous
Safari Rally, face a busy period ahead of them as they will contest two rallies
and a Rally Raid in the next six weeks.
The KCB Kilifi Rally begins with a 21km special stage on Friday night in the
dark and then continues with another 8 competitive stages on Saturday.
This rally is the only round of the 2019 Kenya National Rally Championship
run at sea level and Mayes is excited to experience the additional horsepower
gained from his TVR V8 engine!
"Since I started rallying V8’s we have always competed at high altitude so
when it was announced that the championship was coming to the Coast I was very
"We should gain an extra 15 per cent in power at sea level which should make
things rather fun"
Geoff is also running a charity raffle to raise money for the James Ashe
Snake Bite Anti-Venom Trust which works alongside Bio-Ken Reptile Park in Watamu.
The grand prize is 2 flights to Malindi with East African, 3 nights at Ocean
Sports, dinners at the top restaurants in town, spa treatments, a full day of
fishing and even kite surfing lessons.
This charity raffle follows a recent fundraising for "Hands Off Our
Elephants" where Mayes raised over ksh120,000.
The average venomous snake bite treatment can cost anywhere between US$300
and US$800 in anti-venom alone and, as victims are often in remote areas,
clinics seldom stock such a valuable drug.
To enter the raffle please donate via Mpesa till number 246250 and make a
donation of ksh2000 per ticket. Then send a copy of the confirmation to Geoff
Mayes along with your chosen ticket number.
The winner will be chosen by lucky draw after the KCB Kilifi Rally.
Geoff Mayes and co-driver Suzanne Zwager currently lie second overall in the
Kenyan National Rally Championship SPV category in their Maxxis Tyres and
Silverspread Meru supported V8 Tomcat Rally Raid car.
