Bilal Muslim Mission launch new Kwale water desalination plant

BURANI Kwale -- Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya, in conjunction with the Burani and Bahakanda communities in Kwale County will be launching their 2nd water desalination plant at the Al-Mahdi Muslim community Centre in Burani on Saturday, 24 August 2019 from 9.00 a.m.

The first water desalination plant in Kwale was launched at the Al-Mujtaba community centre in Miamba village.

BMMK is committed to supporting the livelihood strategies and enhancing the standards of living of the various communities it works with in Kwale county.

"Whilst government and other non-government agencies have been invited to participate in this joyous occasion of providing safe potable drinking water to the community, the launch will be conducted jointly by the local community leaders, their external supporter and local government officials.

"We shall therefore not be having a single guest of honour but multiple guests of honour to jointly launch the project.

"In the Miamba project, the water desalination plant is linked to an agriculture demonstration farm using drip farming and other modern technologies.

"At the upcoming Burani desalination plant, the plant would be linked to a demonstration fish farm as well as a drip irrigation scheme.

"The intention is to train the local community and motivate students in the nearby schools to take up modern agriculture practices for livelihood strategies , economic and social sustainability.

"The program intends to train the community to adopt these modern, ecologically sound organic agricultural practices on their individual and family landholdings in order to increase productivity, quality value of their produce and ensure food sustainability."

In this regard, further training will focus on agribusiness development.
