To get a birds eye view of the Maasai Mara and go Hot Air Ballooning | Coastweek

MAASAI MARA -- To get a 'birds eye view' of the Mara, do try 'Hot Air Ballooning', it is great fun. The trip is magical: spend about one hour silently floating over the savannah in a hot air balloon and it will fill you with enough memories to last a lifetime. You take off in the wee hours of the morning, float in the sky, drifting with the whim of the wind, overlooking the plains, just in time to experience a breathtaking sunrise and catch a bird’s eye view of the reserve. After the flight, you will be treated to a luxurious breakfast to complete the experience as you relax and absorb the moment. Expect to pay somewhere in the region of $550 per person. This includes the transfers and a 'bubbly' breakfast.  [ CAPTION:  WWW.MAASAIMARA.COM   XINHUA PHOTO - LI YAN

Hunting all night: Tired Mara lioness enjoys air-conditioned rest

MAASAI MARA -- Maasai Mara National Reserve (also known as Maasai Mara, Maasai Mara and by the local people as The Mara) is a large game reserve in Narok County, Kenya, contiguous with the Serengeti National Park in Mara Region, Tanzania.

It is named in honor of the Maasai people (the ancestral inhabitants of the area) and their description of the area when looked at from afar: "Mara," which is Maa (Maasai language) for "spotted," an apt description for the circles of trees, scrub, savanna, and cloud shadows that mark the area.

It is globally famous for its exceptional population of lions, leopards and cheetahs, and the annual migration of zebra, Thomson's gazelle, and wildebeest to and from the Serengeti every year from July to October, known as the Great Migration.
