Top Kenya women golfers to compete in Ladies European Tour

NAIROBI (Xinhua) -- Two professional women golfers Rose Naliaka and Bhavi Shah have landed invites and will compete at this year’s Ladies European Tour (LET) set for Oct. 3-6 in Kenyan coastal city of Mombasa.

It will be the first time that Kenya will be hosting one of the legs of the LET.

LET is equivalent to the Kenya Open, which is part of the European Tour circuit which is ongoing in Nairobi.

Kenya’s amateur player Naomi Wafula, 20, may also be invited to the exclusive golf tourney.

"The Kenyan event will be among the top five events in the Ladies Tour," said David Jones, one of the organizers of the LET.

The 2019 LET is a series of golf tournaments for elite female golfers from around the world, being played from January through November.

The tour has some of the world’s best 100 golfers.

Jones said that cabinet secretary for tourism Najib Balala was impressed with the ladies tour as the government agreed to a three-year contract to facilitate the event.

"We shall use the template from Kenya Open for the Ladies event in Vipingo," said Jones, who sits in the European Tour board.
