-- The National Industrial
Training Authority (NITA) invited PG Bison to help
with the development of the National Occupation
Competence standards (NOCs) and industrial based
curriculum for the furniture manufacturing sector,
particularly in modular cabinet making.Two
of PG Bison’s top trainers participated in a
one-week seminar and assisted with the development
of training programs, assessment guidelines and
certification for cabinetmakers and carpenters.
During the seminar the Company held a
demonstration to show how their Flatpax
ready-to-assemble kitchen cabinets can be assembled
and fitted together in less than 30 minutes by a
carpenter.
Evans Avundiku from PG Bison explained:
"We are happy to participate in the formulation
of standards to help the development of highly
trained and skilled artisans".
"Major key areas covered were, the importance of
the necessary knowledge, attitude and skills to
design cabinets, determining furniture components
required, and to work with the appropriate materials
and tools required for fabricating cabinets and
furniture.
"We also emphasized the need for health, safety
and security at the workplace.
"Students should also know about the maintenance
of hand tools and machines, and appreciate that
communication and coordination with team members is
a priority".
