(Xinhua) -- The United States military
said Wednesday its special forces conducted an airstrike against al-Shabab
terrorists in southern Somalia on Tuesday, killing six militants.
The U.S. Africa Command (Africom) said the airstrike, which was
conducted in cooperation with Somali government, targeted an al-Shabab
encampment in the vicinity of Yaaq Braawe, Bay region.
"The al-Shabab encampment served as a staging area for terrorists
in the region.
"We currently assess this airstrike killed six militants and
destroyed one vehicle," Africom said in a statement.
The U.S. army, which has increased airstrikes in the Horn of
Africa nation in the recent past, said no civilians were injured or
killed in the latest airstrike.
The U.S. forces alongside Somali and African Union forces have
increased ground and air offensives against the militant group al-Shabab
in the last few months.
