(Xinhua) -- An upcountry trip for a family ended on a
tragic note after the father and his ten year old daughter died
in an accident along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.
During the 3 a.m. accident at Kinungi
trading center in Naivasha, four other members of the family
including two minors were injured two of them seriously.
The accident occurred after the
personal car that was carrying the family rammed head on into an
incoming lorry, killing the two on the spot.

Police Division (OCPD) Naivasha, confirmed the accident, adding
that the bodies had been collected and taken to the local
According to James Kabono from
Naivasha Safety group, the driver of the personal car was to
blame for the tragic accident.
“The driver was heading to Western
Kenya when he left his lane and rammed head-on into the incoming
lorry killing two while four others were seriously injured,” he
Kabono said that the injured were
rushed to Naivasha sub-county hospital where two were admitted
in serious but stable condition.
Meanwhile, tens of motorists were over
the weekend arrested in Naivasha for drunk driving along major
roads in and around the town.
During the Saturday and Sunday night
crackdown, over hundred drivers were forced to spend the night
in police cells.
Drama unfolded during the exercise as
some drivers tried to flee on foot from the officers only to
collapse a few meters away due to the effects of the liquor.
The OCPD said that the crackdown
targeting drunk drivers would continue across the roads during
the festive season.
“We are putting on notice those
drivers who are driving while drunk that we are keenly
monitoring them and they face arrest,” he said.
