Kenya Red Cross Society held its
Fourth edition of the National Volunteer Awards on
Friday 7th of December 2018 to celebrate
volunteers and their contributions in helping the
society alleviate human suffering and service to
humanity all over the country.
The event held at Boma Hotel grounds
was attended by KRCS Governor Dr. Mohamud Said,
Mvita MP Hon. Abdulswamad S. Nassir, Norwegian
Ambassador to Kenya H.E Ms. Elin Bergithe
Rognilie, lnspector General of Police Joseph
Boinet, Mombasa County Police Commander
Johnstone Ipara among other dignitaries, guests
and volunteers from across our 47 counties.
Mombasa County managed to achieve 7
awards from different categories…

Mr. Rafik receiving his first runners up for
Senior Youth Volunteer Award from Minister of
Labour and Social Protection at Laico Regency

Mr. Rafik Rauf was also awarded 2 days
prior as Senior Volunteer of the Year 1st
Runners up in the VOYA Awards that was hosted by
Ministry of Labour and Social Protection in conjunction
with Volunteer Involving Organization Society at
Nairobi’s Laico Regency Hotels.
Speaking along with Organizational
Development Manager Mr. Shadrack Musyoka at SwitchTv in
Nairobi, Mr. Rafik pointed out that the adrenaline in
volunteers at times goes crazy in terms of responding,
the passion of volunteerism increases day by day.
“The Organization volunteers have
lived with the hashTag #AlwaysThere and have Always been
There,” concluded Mr. Rafik.
“These volunteers do undergo
psychological counseling that we provide and we do not
compromise on it as they handle great cases of trauma”
added Mr. Shadrack.
Mombasa branch has been active in
responding to emergencies and community service.
Speaking to our Coastweek news desk,
Mr. Mohamed Rajab who is the County Coordinator for Red
Cross Mombasa says that we need more volunteers from
communities to come forward and provide their services
“Let Youths Indulge in Humanitarian
activities that keeps them active and aware of a
positive life” he added.
The branch needs donors in sustaining
its Kitty for Disaster response activities, and more
memberships from individuals.
The branch Volunteers shall be on a
beach patrol duty during this festive season at all
Public beaches giving safety awareness, tracing services
and first aid where needed all for free.
