(Xinhua) -- The United States military
said Saturday it conducted an airstrikes in Somalia on Friday,
killing nine al-Shabab terrorists.
The U.S. Africa
Command (Africom) said the no civilian was killed in the latest
drone strike which was carried out in coordination with Somali
government near Lebede in the Horn of Africa nation.
It said the American forces will use all effective and
appropriate methods to protect the Somali people, including
partnered military counter-terror operations with Somali
government, Africa Union Mission in Somalia and Somali National
The al-Qaida allied terrorist group continues to hold parts
of the country’s south and central regions after being chased
out of Mogadishu several years ago.
Somali and African Union peacekeeping forces have also
intensified military operations against the insurgents, flushing
them in their Lower and Middle Shabelle region bases as part of
efforts to stabilize the Horn of Africa nation.

Somali security forces on Thursday arrested al-Shabab
militant, a key suspect behind the bombing of Sahafi hotel in
Mogadishu on Nov. 9 that left at least 50 people dead, officials
The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) said
that the militant will be arraigned in court once investigations
"The security forces arrested one of the masterminds of the
attack on Sahafi hotel on Nov.9, we will bring him to justice,"
NISA said, adding that its forces carried out a well coordinated
security operation in Mogadishu.
Al-Shabab militants did not comment on the arrest of one of
its fighters but instead said forces killed at least six Somalia
National Army (SNA) soldiers in landmine blast outside Mogadishu
earlier on Thursday.
