TOWN ! GETTING
READY FOR MOMBASA CULTURAL EXTRAVAGANZA
THIS YEAR’S Mombasa Cultural Carnival kicks off on November 27,
1999 starting with a parade culminating with events at Mama
Ngina Drive at 4.00 p.m. reported JOY KEMIBARO.
The main sponsors of
this year’s carnival is the Sameer Group of Companies.
Other major sponsors
include Kenya Breweries, ABN Amro, Coca Cola, with donations in
kind received from British Airways, Kenya Airways, Whitesands
Hotel, Travellers Hotel, African Quest Safaris, Sian Roses,
Oserian Development, Kiun Communications, Copy Cat, Africa
Online, Standard Newspapers, Coastweek, People Newspapers,
College Publishers, Stuff for Sale magazine and Nation Newsapers.
Activities at Mama
Ngina Drive will begin at 11.00 a.m. with live performances from
music artists, fashion shows, hairdressing shows plus much more.
The parade will
start at 2.00 p.m. from MCTA on Moi Avenue and from Fort Jesus
meeting at the Coca Cola Roundabout on Digo/ Moi Avenue to walk
up Nyerere Avenue.
The parade should
arrive at Mama Ngina Drive by 4.00 p.m.
The floats will
include those from Youth Counselling Centre; Arab Dancers; Lions
and Rotary Club; Krystal Puppeteers; Toyota Kenya; Face painters
(Alvin Turner); Florida Night Club; Diamond Stars; Emerald;
Bohra scouts; Aga Khan Band; Bombolulu Cultural Troupe; Swift
Global (K) Limited; Aptech Computer Limited; Mombasa Academy
(Theme: ‘Every Color under the sun’); African Safari Club;
Brookside Milk; Kensec; Alliance Francaise de Mombasa; German
Entrance is free for
all and there are several prizes to be won for the Carnival
King, Carnival Queen, Best Float, Best School Float, Best
Dressed Child (male and female)
