MSC Edges Out KGM at the Nairobi Gymkhana in 20/20 

Coastweek -- The visiting team from the Coast, Mombasa Sports Club had two good wins over the hosts on Saturday 20th October, 2018 over the hosts, Kenya Grand Masters at the  Nairobi Gymkhana.

Brief Scores/Result: - (First match in the morning)

Mombasa Sports Club beat the hosts KGM by 8 runs in a nail biting finish.

Mombasa Sports Club captain Zahir Khaku won the toss and elected to bat first.

Bakir Yusuf (38) and young upcoming cricketer Shukan Mehta (12) opened the innings and put up a good first wicket partnership before Shukan Mehta got run out.

Mohit Dhudia (41) and Zahir Khaku (38) also batted brilliantly.

Mombasa Sports Club managed to score 167 for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs.

Praveen Rao captured 3 wickets for 17 runs and Bhoopal Srinivasan 2 wickets for 20 runs bowled impressively for the hosts.

In reply the hosts, KGM gave good account of themselves but lost the match as they could manage 159 for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs.

The top scorers were Praveen Rao (41) Ram Murugesh (31), Naresh Kannabiran 29 and Arun Balaraman (25).

Bowling honours were shared by Thabith Momammed 2/12, Zahir Khaku 2/10, Taha Sulemanjee 1/16 and Bhavya Thakkar 1/33.

Mombasa sports Club agile wicketkeeper Bakir Yusuf was simply brilliant behind the stumps as he had a great stumping and a top class catch.

Match 2 in the Afternoon was officiated by Munir Khan and Asgar Kassam while the scorer was Brenda Mogusu. Mombasa Sports Club beat KGM by 5 wickets.

KGM batted first and scored 163 for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs.

Anand Ranganathan (51), Ram Murugesh (26) and Thanu Moorthy (23) batted well for KGM.

Bowling honours were shared by Taaha Sulemanjee 2/15, Vishal Sikotra 1/27 and Arjun Bhatia 1/24.

In reply Mombasa Sports Club managed to score the required runs - 164/5 wickets in 19.3 overs thanks mainly to fine batting performances by Mohit Dudhia (58), Shukan Mehta (32) and Sagar Karia (30).

Praveen Rao 2/37, Captain Girish Nair 1/27, Bhoopal 1/33 and Raj Sekaran 1/19 were the successful bowlers.

Both the matches were played in good spirit and in accordance with the ICC Playing conditions.

The hosts KGM must be congratulated for a very well organized cricket matches.

Mombasa Sports Club Team Manager Vivek Mehta was impressed with the facilities and thanked the hosts for the wonderful hospitality.

Vivek also congratulated his boys for the wins and playing with great spirit and as a team.

The matches were officiated by: Subhash Modi, David Odhiambo, Munir Khan and Asgar Kassam while the scorer was Brenda Mogosu.
