A Hotly Contested Silver Medal At Kenya Bowling Association’s National Pairs Championships At The Limuru Country Club

Coastweek -- We are at the Mombasa Terminus on 15th June 2018 at 5.30am. Five Bowlers namely Shobha Bij, Vijay Bij, Deepak Vyas, Norbert Fernandes and Vishal Shah are on their way to participate in the Kenya Bowling Association’s National Pairs Championships which are being hosted by Limuru Country Club Bowls Section on 16th and 17th June 2018.

In 2013, our former Green Attendant Simon Mwasela playing with Charles Wambugu had made us proud by winning a Gold medal at the KBA National Pairs.

A Total of 14 Pairs had registered to participate in the National Pairs Championship in 2018. 28 Bowlers participated which is considered a very good attendance.

On the 16th June 2018, Saturday we arrived at the Limuru Country Club.

It’s freezing with temperatures at 14 degrees centigrade and a layer of fog on the Gree ... but still bowlers in all whites with mufflers and jackets are coming in mingling and having hot coffee to keep warm and Registering in time so as not to miss the deadline of 9.45 a.m.

Rink allocations were done by 9.55am and play commenced on schedule at 10.00am.

Format of play was 4 leagues (2 leagues of 4 teams and 2 leagues of 3 teams).

Mombasa team of Deepak and Norbert and Simon and Vishal drew in the same league of 4 teams with James and Cephas (Reigning Champions) and John and Christine both from Limuru.

Our Other Mombasa Team of Vijay and Shobha drew in a league of 3 teams with Karanja and Beatrice (Nairobi) and Benson and Fridah (Karen).

Day 1- 16th June 2018 was league rounds of either 2 or 3 games.

Top 2 teams in each league battle in the Quarter Finals on 17th June 2018. Mombasa Team of Deepak and Norbert won 2 out of 3 games to proceed to Quarter Finals.

Day 2- 17th June 2018…Quarter Finals started at 08.00 a.m. …The weather was freezing with fog but play had to proceed…Team Deepak and Norbert clashed with Team Sophie and Essie and won 15shots up to 13 shots for Team Sophie to make entry into the semi finals …They then played Team J Kitosi and Rispah from Karen and won to enter the FINALS……HURRAY

In the Finals they meet team James and Cephas (the Reigning Champions and their 1st league Game opponents).

Unfortunately after 17th End with 8 shots down to 22 shots up for Team James, They called it a day
