Tusker hammers Taveta in a goal-scoring spree

Coastweek -- Tusker FC went on a goal-scoring spree when they hammered Taita Taveta 7-0 during a match played at Dawson Mwanyumba Stadium in Wundanyi.

Tusker FC technical bench official Charles Okere was satisfied with his team players for playing according to instructions and was optimistic they will continue to perform better in their SportPesa Premnier league matches.

“We have lost three consecutive league matches and this victory is morale booster for our team to return to our good position in the league standing.

“We are confident we’ll win some of our league matches,” said Okere.

Taita Taveta All Stars FC coach Hassan Mohammed said Tusker is one of the best country football teams and therefore they have many experience and talented players.

“We are inexperience side but we’ve learnt a lot from Tusker team,” said Mohammed.

Meanwhile, new player Francis Ocholla scored the winning goal to enable Modern Coast Rangers FC of Mombasa to sail through the first round of the SportsPesa Shield Competition when they edged Balaji FC 2-1 during a match played at Camp Toyoyo in Nairobi.

After a series of missed chances, speedy winger Dominic put the visitors ahead in the 18th minute for the Coast team to lead 1-0 at breather.

Balaji restored the parity at an hours’ mark through as spot kick converted by Derrick Santi following an infringement inside the box.

Ocholla who was recently released by Wazito and joined Rangers during the mid-season transfer window sealed victory with a 75th minute strike.

Ocholla was Rangers top scorer last season before he moved on transfer to Kenya Premier League side Sofapaka during the mid-season transfer period after which he later joined Wazito.

Balaji who are making their second consecutive appearance in the tournament fielded former AFC Leopards striker Emannuel “Tostao”.

Last year, Balaji eliminated Coast Stima 4-1 on post-match penalties but were later disqualified for fielding an ineligible player Larrick Omboko.

With the results, Modern Coast Rangers host Ligi Ndogo in the second round of the SportPesa Shield match.

Ligi Ndogo qualified for the second round after they eliminated Talanta 4-3 on post-match penalties after a one all draw in the normal regulation time during the match played at Hope Center over the weekend.
