Kenyan bourse key indices drop as foreigners cash in

NAIROBI (Xinhua) -- The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) key indicator fell below the 3,500 points mark on Friday as large stocks continued to decline, with foreigners raising purchases to cash in.

The NSE 20 index declined by 25.61 points to close at 3,494.17 pulled down by Kenya Commercial Bank, Equity Bank and Centum Investment, among others, which went down.

However, in contrast, the NSE All Share Index increased by 0.49 points to close at 179.25. On the other hand, the 25 share index decreased by 2.28 points, closing at 4,648.36.

Variations of the indices saw the market volumes decrease to 16.4 million shares worth 4.5 million dollars from 16.5 million worth 5.6 million dollars on Thursday.

Foreign participation represented 54 percent of the total turnover, with the investors maintaining a net purchase position of Safaricom, making it the most traded stock at 6.6 million shares.

Bond turnover rose to 24 million dollars compared to 12 million dollars in the previous session.
