Kenyan Nairobi Securities Exchange shows major decline   

NAIROBI (Xinhua) -- The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) experienced a major decline on Thursday as key indices and turnover dipped, wiping out gains recorded in previous session.

Turnover declined to 7.5 million U.S. dollars on a volume of 24 million shares from the previous session’s 16 million dollars from 77 million shares.

Similarly, the NSE 20 share Index was down 29.87 points to stand at 3,635.76 while the All Share Index (NASI) shed off 2.93 points to stand at 178.25. On the other hand, the NSE 25 Share index lost 49.42 to close at 4,683.01.

Kenya’s leading telecom Safaricom was the day’s biggest mover with 14 million shares, which represented 53 percent of the day’s traded value.

The banking sector transacted shares that accounted for 27 percent of the day’s traded value, with Equity Group Holdings actively moving 2.3M shares to emerge second on Thursday.

Other top movers were KenolKobil 1.23 million shares, NIC 911,000 and Kengen 732,800.

The bond market registered improved activity with bonds worth 31 million dollars transacted compared to 27 million dollars posted the previous session.
