NAIROBI (Xinhua) --
Some 21 million shares valued at 6.6 million U.S.
dollars were traded at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) on
Tuesday, down from 31 million worth 8.4 million dollars, as a
bear run at the market persisted.
The NSE 20 Share
Index was down 12.37 points to stand at 3,658.91, with the
losing streak continuing from previous session.
Similarly, the All
Share Index (NASI) shed 0.51 points to stand at 178.74 and the
NSE 25 Share Index was up 1.60 points to stand at 4,681.67.
Safaricom was the
most traded stock moving 9.4 million shares to represent 40.3
percent of the day’s traded value.
However, as a
category, the banking sector accounted for 41 percent of the
day’s traded value.
Bank actively moved 2.2 million shares, Cooperative Bank 1.6
million shares, I&M Holdings 325,000 shares and Equity Bank

registered improved activity with bonds worth 25 million dollars
transacted compared to 15 million dollars posted the previous
