I write this with reference to a
letter that was circulated by the NEMA a while ago.
It mentioned different amounts of
fines to be imposed for different offences like keeping garbage
outside the gate and parking of heavy vehicles etc.
I would like to remind them and the
County Council of Mombasa that charity begins at home.
Have the officials concerned ever been
around Mombasa town and its environs to see how the garbage is
collected and disposed.
I don’t think so. The filth that has
engulfed Mombasa is humongous.
A visit to the area near Mombasa
Stadium and around Mbaraki area are testimony of this.
The garbage Trucks are broken.
The garbage is falling out from the
gaps—this is in TUDOR just outside the Mosque near the Technical
University of Mombasa—where people come to offer their prayers.
What A Shame!
We are supposed to be a touristic town
but what greets the tourist on arrival to our (“fine”) town?
I conclude by appealing to the
concerned authorities to do a major clean up and ensure it stays
that way so that we can be proud of a cleaner Mombasa.
