Musical maestro Edmund Silveira is brilliant
pianist, bandleader, arranger and composer

.

Edmund Silveira - pianist, bandleader, arranger and composer - was born in Mombasa of very musical parents.

His late father, Ubaldo (an accountant by profession), was a classically trained violinist and the founder and conductor of one of Kenya's first classical orchestras in Nairobi.

Mombasa musician Edmund Silveira | Coastweek   His mother, the late Katherine Silveira, was an accomplished pianist and piano teacher.

Ed is a classically trained pianist.

He achieved honours in his youth in all his piano exams of the Trinity College of Music, London and was a British Commonwealth Music Scholarship student at the Dartingon College of Music, Devon, England.

  .
His brother Ernest (Electrical Engineer), and his two children, Mark (Lawyer) and Michelle (Consultant pharmacist), are also fine musicians having achieved distinctions in all their piano exams of the Royal Schools of Music, London.

Ed has worked on his own musical arrangements of hit tunes and this culminated in a CD entitled 'Just for You'.

It has Ed on electronic piano (Yamaha pf80), the exciting bass guitar playing of his talented brother Ernest, the rhythmic drumming of Eliud Jorjo, and the fine musical talents of his and Hasu's children, Mark (synthesizer) and Michelle (vocals).

For many years Edmund and his musician friends were the resident band at the Mombasa Nyali Beach hotel's popular 'Mvita Grill'.

In his warm review of that delectable evening the Coastweek 'Eating Out' correspondent 'Nosher' wrote:

"If the 'Mvita Grill' served only baked beans from a bucket garnished with dead badger, it would still be up there amongst my favourites for the very good reason that it has the best band and the best music anywhere on the Coast.

"I could listen to Ed Silveira and his band endlessly, and the combination of the music, ambience and food make the 'Mvita Grill' a very special place.

A perfect evening for 'Nosher' concluded with the observation:

"We drank a bottle of French wine for a change, and then resorted to perfectly acceptable house wine by the glass as we sat and digested and let Ed's musical magic wash over us.

"Ahhh."
