NAIROBI (Xinhua) --
All the key indices of the Nairobi Securities
Exchange (NSE) on Tuesday registered improved performance, with the
NSE 20 Share Index gaining 17.20 points to cross above the
psychological 3,000 mark.
The index closed at 3,007.90 the first time in as many weeks
following a rise in share prices of at least 13 stocks.
Similarly, the All Share Index (NASI) inched up 0.58 points to
settle at 127.78 and the NSE 25 Share Index was up 21.03 points to
stand at 3,376.68.
Some 23 million shares valued at 4.6 million U.S. dollars were
traded, down from 32 million worth 5.2 million dollars in the
The banking sector traded shares worth 3.4 million dollars and
accounted for 73 percent of the day’s traded value.
Equity Bank was the most actively traded stock during the session
exchanging 5.8 million shares at a high of 0.30 dollars.
Barclays Bank moved 3.4 million shares at 0.08 dollars to be the
second best stock while Kenya Commercial Bank went up 0.8 percent to
trade at 0.31 dollars and move 2.6 million shares and Cooperative
Bank moved 2.3 million shares valued at 0.14 dollars.
Leading telecom operator Safaricom, which did not feature among top
five stocks, saw a paltry 511,000 shares valued traded at 0.18
The bonds market had bonds worth 12 million dollars transacted down
from 11 million shares.
