Nepal registers victory against Kenya in World Cricket League

KATHMANDU Nepal (Xinhua) -- Nepal on Monday secured victory over Kenya by seven wickets in the second match of the ICC World Cricket League Championship.

In the match held at the Tribhuvan University Stadium here in the capital city, Nepal chased the target of 156 runs set by Kenya in 30.2 overs at the cost of three wickets.

Elected to field first after winning the toss, Nepal had bowled Kenya all out at 155 runs in 46.1 overs.

Stand-in captain Gyanendra Malla scored the highest for team Nepal with 64 runs followed by Dipendra Singh Airee's 62 runs. Nepali skipper Paras Khadka, the powerful player of team, missed the game owing to health constraints.

Host Nepal had lost against Kenya in the rain-interrupted match by 5 wickets in the same ground on Saturday.

The World Cricket League Championship is the gateway to the 50-over World Cup 2019 with top tour teams to earn berths for the Qualifiers in 2018.

Nepal currently stands sixth with six points from nine matches while Kenya is one spot ahead of Nepal with 12 points playing equal number of matches.

Despite of Monday's win, Nepal needs to depend on the outcome of other teams in the remaining five matches of the tournament to remain in contention for the Qualifiers.
