U.S. President Donald Trump discusses
bilateral ties with Kenyan counterpart 

NAIROBI (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday evening held a telephone conversation with his Kenyan counterpart, Uhuru Kenyatta to discuss areas of mutual interests between the two countries.

A statement from the White House said the two leaders discussed a range of issues like bilateral trade, investments and counter terrorism.

“President Donald J. Trump spoke today with President Kenyatta of Kenya to reaffirm the strong bilateral relationship between our two countries,” said the statement.

The two leaders discussed economic partnership and mutual dedication to overcoming terrorism and other regional security challenges through close cooperation, according to the statement.

“President Trump expressed appreciation for Kenya’s significant contributions to the African Union Mission in Somalia and recognized Kenyan troops’ sacrifices in the fight against al-Shabaab,” it said.

The two leaders also discussed ways to boost bilateral trade and investment in Kenya and the broader East Africa region, it added.
