Nairobi Bourse key indices, turnover slump as foreigners stay away

NAIROBI, March 3 (Xinhua) -- All key indices of the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) and turnover went down Friday as foreign investors kept off the market.

The benchmark NSE 20 Share Index declined 7.3 points to close the week at 2,961.78.

On the other hand, the All share Index (NASI) was down 0.6 points to close at 121.73 while the NSE 25 Share index ended the day at a low of 3,196.79.

During the week, the NSE 20 share Index lost 61.29 points, NASI 4.80 points while the NSE 25 Share index shaved-off 100.72 points.

Turnover on Friday declined 60 percent to 2.2 million U.S. dollars on a volume of 12.3 million shares from 29 million shares worth 5.7 million dollars the previous day.

Foreign investors’ participation during the session stood at 43 percent down from over 90 percent in the previous session, mainly foreign buys.

The bond market recorded improved activity with securities worth 27 million dollars transacted compared to 19 million dollars posted the previous day.
