(Xinhua) -- Burundian President Pierre
Nkurunziza said Friday that his government would sue the African
Union (AU) over unpaid salaries for Burundian troops serving in
the African Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

"It’s regrettable that salaries of Burundian troops serving
in the AMISOM have been withheld for about a year," he said,
adding it is "unfair" as troops from other countries are
"We (Burundi) will continue to claim the withheld salaries
for peacekeepers until we get them and we will also request
compensation," Nkurunziza said.
The president further warned that Burundian troops might be
recalled home if the payment is not made next month.
Since 2007, Burundi has sent six battalions of over 5,000
troops into Somalia, which was facing constant threats of Al-Shabaab.
