World kickboxing champion to vie for African title in Kenya

NAIROBI, (Xinhua) -- World kickboxing middleweight champion Golola Moses from Uganda will fight Tanzanian champion Emmanuel Shija for the African title on Oct.15 in Nairobi.

“Kickboxing fans in Kenya will witness top notch game first hand during where I will go for nothing short of the African title,”  Moses said in Nairobi on Thursday during the launching event for the fight.

Moses won the world title last year after beating Thailand’s Watharporn Kamsupon, and has since become a celebrity in Uganda.

The fighter, who is famous for his hilarious quotes, won 19 bouts last year, 14 of which come through knockouts, with only six loses.

Mixed Martial Arts promoter and match promoter, Paul Kabaale, said the tournament, dubbed  “One Region, One Champion,” will also feature East Africa’s first ever single-day four-man kickboxing fight, in addition to Muay Thai super title fights.

On the cards will also be Kenyan kickboxing champion Robert Nabertson, who will take on Uganda’s Twaha Kiiza for the welterweight title.

In the ladies category, Kenya’s Joy Awino will take on South Sudan’s Natasha Winnie in a heavyweight bout in the only ladies’ event of the day.
